Preparing for the Montgomery Metropolitan Areas transportation future involves careful planning. Transportation Planning is a field that involves the planning for the future and maintaining of current infrastructure facilities and systems alike to include: streets, highways, sidewalks, bike lanes and routes, public transportation routes/lines, aviation, rail and water transportation.
Over the course of the next several months the Montgomery Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and its transportation planning staff will be in the process of updating it’s year 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) from the year 2030. The MPO and staff will be assessing the current transportation system and facilities to determine the condition of roads and bridges, determining the kinds of transportation facilities and services needed to move people and goods efficiently and effectively and planning for further growth and development that come in the forms of increased population, housing, employment and schools.
The 2035 LRTP will serve as a document that guides the orderly and needed development of a multimodal transportation system over the course of a 25 year timeframe. The LRTP is a document that must be updated every five (5) years based on Federal transportation regulations (Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) of 2005. The LRTP is revised every five years to reflect changing growth conditions, such as, housing, employment and schools developments.
This site is designed as a communication tool with the citizens of the Montgomery Metropolitan Area.
